Dr. Jane Brakken, DVM
After two years of working as both a large-animal (dairy, beef, and horses) and a small-animal veterinarian in Spooner, WI, Dr. Brakken realized her passion was working with pets who were members of the family. She moved to Menomonie in 1991 and started the practice in 1995. After growing up on the wide open prairies of Montevideo, MN, and getting her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Minnesota, she came to the area for the rolling countryside, trees, and the small-town atmosphere with big-city amenities. She and her husband, Sean, love to cross-country ski and road/mountain-bike. Now she is trying her hand (or feet) at running and snowshoeing (of which her dog, Teg, a 25-lb. humane-society adoptee, fully approves). She enjoys all levels of medicine with a special interest in preventative dentistry.
Laurel Bird, CVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Laurel has been with Brakken Veterinary Clinic since it opened in April of 1995. She graduated from the Medical Institute of Minnesota in 1979 and is a Certified Veterinary Technician as well as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dentistry. She also works for a Veterinary Dental Specialist at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center of Minnesota in Saint Paul and is also an instructor at Globe University in Eau Claire. She lives on a small farm west of Menomonie with her husband, Fred, and a small menagerie of farm critters. She also has two cats, named Winnie and Eiren, and two dogs, named Polar and Cashel. She enjoys gardening and spending time with her friends and family, including her daughters and grandchildren.
Megan Hanson, CVT
Megan has been one of our Certified Veterinary Technicians since October of 2005. She graduated from Rochester Community and Technical College in 2005. Meg lives in Arkansaw with her husband, Ryan, and daughters, Lacey and Avery. She also has two dogs (a Black Lab named Diesel and a German Shorthair named Shooter), cat (Colby), and a flock of chickens. She enjoys painting, hunting, fishing, gardening, and Animal Behavior.
Kati Miller, CVT
Kati has been with the clinic since April of 2011. She graduated from Globe University in Eau Claire in December of 2010 and is a Certified Veterinary Technician. She lives in Menomonie with her son, Johnathon, two dogs (Honey and Maddie), and four cats (Oz, Sarge, Shy, and Tyke). She enjoys being outdoors, camping, gardening, cuddling with her kittens, and spending time with family and friends.
Kelli has been a receptionist and veterinary assistant here since 2006. She and her husband, Kenton own a home in Menomonie with their son, Ryker, two dogs (a Lab named Hugo and a Dachshund named Bear) and two Siamese cats (Dale and Klyde). Her interests include playing sports, going to the movies, and hanging out with family and friends.
Rochelle has been a full-time resident of the clinic since November of 2008. She originally came here looking for a home through the Dunn County Humane Society but instead chose us as her family and has lived here ever since. You may get the opportunity to spot her at the receptionist's desk although you'll probably have to search for her basking in a cushy bed behind the warmth of the computer monitor. In the little spare time she has, she enjoys sightseeing out the front windows, patrolling the clinic after hours, and playing with hair-binders (don't worry, she doesn't eat them!)
