Veterinarians

Dr. Jane Brakken, DVM

After two years of working as both a large-animal (dairy, beef, and horses) and a small-animal veterinarian in Spooner, WI, Dr. Brakken realized her passion was working with pets who were members of the family. She moved to Menomonie in 1991 and started the practice in 1995. After growing up on the wide open prairies of Montevideo, MN, and getting her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Minnesota, she came to the area for the rolling countryside, trees, and the small-town atmosphere with big-city amenities. She loves to cross-country ski and road/mountain bike. Now she is trying her hand (or feet) at running and snowshoeing. She enjoys all levels of medicine.

They have a dog (Dempsey), 3 cats (Klyde, Zeus -who's 3-legged, and Morty), 1 3-legged turtle, 1 bearded dragon, and so many fish. Support Staff

Matt Wegenke

Matt has been with Brakken since 2015 as our kennel care specialist. He keeps the whole place running. He is in charge of all the maintenance. Matt keeps all the equipment up, running, and sterile for the safety of all the animals and our staff. He's always quick to assist with any stressed animal and can be seen sneaking off to pet the cats and dogs here for surgery. Matt lives in Menomonie with his 3 cats Uncle Ben, Mrs. Murphy, and Sharky. Matt loves games and reading.

Jessica Brown

Jessica is the newest team member, you can normally spot her at the front desk when you come in. She came to work at Brakken in 2023 but has been a client of Brakken since 2006. She is normally up front answering phone calls, taking patients to their rooms, or running around looking for a pen... it's typically in her hair. She and her family live in Menomonie and have a menagerie of pets of all types. From cats and dogs to tortoises, snakes, lizards, and fish. She never knows what will show up next. She also fosters Moses Ark Rescue just outside of Menomonie.

Fabio

Fabio is the clinic resident. He came to us from the Dunn County Humane Society in 2018. He is most often in the back watching over the work to make sure it is done right. Fabio will come to check in and outpatients at the reception desk if it is a warm day and a sunbeam hits just right. Or if anyone is daring enough to try and look at the paperwork. He would love to get a scratch behind the ear while you tell him how magnificent he is.
